PA building renovations committee honours local Movember team.

If you look up, waaay up, when passing by the Physics and Astronomy building these days you may notice subtle changes.

Some of the historical building sculpted gargoyles had seen better days and indeed were crumbling and deteriorating beyond hope.

As part of the building renovations, a local stone sculptor was commissioned to replace some of the gargoyles with the likenesses of our Movember team, The Physics Phuzzy Lips.

You can still donate to this team in support of men’s prostate cancer and mental health research.

Andrew was guest chef at the November meeting of the London Chapter of Les Marmitons International, a cooking group that meets at Fanshawe College. Will and John we part of the team that cooked up the best Braised Beef Cheek Perogies with Savory Blueberry Sauce this side of Gdansk.

Awesome simulation

Computer simulations are very common now in science, and sometimes the results are just awesome and pretty at the same time. Here’s an example of galaxy formation and mergers, and although there’s many such simulations out there, this one I find particularly impressive. Calculations were done on a supercomputer at the NASA Ames Research Center in California, for a total of 1 million CPU hours…..
