Limer(phys)icks

I haven’t settled on a theme for my Posterous entries yet, so for now here are some limericks I wrote today about a few famous inter-scientist feuds.

Newton VS Leibniz –
Sir Newton roared “I am the brainiest!
Leibniz’ false claims are extraneous!”
This lewd calc feud brewed…
So to lighten the mood,
Lorentz said “Perhaps simultaneous?”

Darwin VS Alfred Wallace
Sir Wallace made Darwin look surlier.
The latter, dumbfounded, said “surely your
work’s not involving
each species’ evolving!
I sure wish I’d spoken up earlier!”

…
Let’s try that again
…

Both Darwin and Wallace had luck,
Showing complex forms started from muck,
But though they both solved
How we have evolved
Better writing meant glory for Chuck!

Einstein VS Bohr
Einstein could not reach a junction
With Bohr’s mysterious wave function
This logical trap,
He thought was such crap,
He administered Neils’ Extreme Unction.

(I think they actually just agreed to disagree, but that doesn’t rhyme with ‘wave function’…)

Happy holidays to everyone!

  1. Erwin Schrodinger,The quantum woe bringer,Was at a logical dysjunction,Curiosity that,Did away with his cat?Or was it that pesky wave function?

  2. Woe bringer? Toe flinger? Ro flinger?Alone with a cat-box Bohr sat, To test Schrody’s cool idea that, “I’ve poked air holes” Neils said, “He’ll be living OR dead……unless I poked holes in the cat…”

  3. Take two (ouch)Can you find something that rhymes with Schrodinger? Was the question he always asked of her.The reply was always the sameNo I can’t, but it’s just such a shameThat you’re a physicist and not a prestidigitator.

  4. Can you find something that rhymes with Schrodinger? Was the question he always asked of her.The reply was always the sameNo, I’m your mother and I’m not to blameIf your cat died in this universe or other.
